SAIL has supplied 8,000 tonnes of steel for development of Santragacchi Railway station as a terminal station.
According to the steel-maker, plates, structurals (including narrow parallel flange sections), and seismic-grade TMT Bars have been supplied by Plate Mill of Rourkela Steel Plant, and the rolling mills at ISP, Burnpur and DSP, Durgapur.
Upgrade of Santragacchi Railway station as a terminal station – to de-congest Howrah station under the Eastern Railway and allow smooth movement of traffic – is expected to be completed by March 2019 at an estimated cost of Rs 150 crore.
The project includes construction of a six-storied steel-intensive administrative building, a new island platform and two foot-over bridges. The foot-over bridges are being constructed to connect the administrative building with the existing platform number 1 and to the new island platform.
