Several varieties, especially in CTC and Orthodox dust and leaf grades, witnessed heavy withdrawals at Kochi tea auction due to lack of bids.

Despite good arrivals compared to last week, prices for almost all varieties declined due to subdued demand from upcountry buyers. In sale no 44, the quantity on offer in CTC grades was 13,41,500 kg.

According to auctioneers, Forbes, Ewart & Figgis, the market was lower by ₹3 to ₹5 and sometimes more up to ₹10. Exporters confined to medium and plainer varieties.

With less demand, the quantity on offer in Orthodox grades was 19,500 kg. The market was lower and a small quantity of Orthodox dust sold was absorbed by exporters.

In the best Cochin CTC dust quotation, good varieties quoted ₹84-132, medium fetched ₹65-105 and plain grades stood at ₹54-62.

Leaf sale was also no exception, which witnessed heavy withdrawals due to lack of bids. The quantity on offer in Orthodox grades was 2,22,000 kg, up from last week's levels. Nilgiri Brokens Whole Leaf, Fannings were irregular and lower by longer margins of ₹5 to ₹10 and more following quality.

The quantity on offer in CTC grades was 97,000 kg and the quantity sold was only 45 per cent. The market was lower by ₹5 to ₹7 and sometimes more. A small quantity was absorbed by upcountry and internal buyers.

In the dust grades, Manjolai SFD quoted the best prices of ₹140, followed by Manjolai FD at ₹139. In leaf varieties, Chamraj Green Tea (sup) fetched the best prices of ₹301 followed by Warwick Green FOP at ₹251.,
