The Railway Budget speech-indicated infrastructure development, including track renewal, conversion and completion of ongoing projects are likely to be a boost for Steel Authority of India Ltd.
State-owned steel maker is the sole supplier of around 7 lakh tonnes of rails annually to the Railways.
The Bhillai plant of SAIL is adding 1.2 million capacity to produce rails at an upcoming Rs 1,200 crore mill to cater to the Railways' emerging requirements.
It would take the SAIL’s rail output capacity to 1.95 million tonnes a year. SAIL has been producing special rails for heavy haulage freight trains as wll as dedicated freight corridors. It is also producing special hot-rolled coils, slabs and plates for wagon building.
