India is capable of supplying high quality generic drugs at affordable prices to meet the needs of Argentina’s pharmaceuticals market, Commerce & Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu said.

Argentina President Mauricio Macri, who is on an official visit to India and was also part of the India-Argentina business forum meet, said his country is investing heavily to create world-class infrastructure and invited Indian investors.

“You are most welcome in Argentina. If we work together, then potential is endless. I invite you,” Macri said at the meet organised by CII on Monday.

Prabhu said that both countries recognised the need to upgrade bilateral trade and economic relations from the current level to a higher level by utilising the untapped potential available to both nations and added that India wanted to partner with Argentina in its efforts to become a $5-trillion economy by 2025.

“Argentina is a leader in agriculture sector and we look forward to increasing cooperation in the area,” Prabhu said, adding that India had huge expertise in IT and pharma sectors.

The Argentine President also had a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi where the two agreed that strong measures must be taken against terrorists and terror groups, and all those who encourage, support, finance and provide them safe havens.

To fight terrorism

“Now it is required that the world unites against terrorism and those who support it. Hesitation to take action against terrorism and those who support it is akin to encouraging terrorism,” Modi said, without specifically mentioning Pakistan. India blames Pakistan for supporting militant group Jaish-e-Mohammad which took responsibility for the terror strike in Pulwama last week that killed 44 CRPF men.

India and Argentina released a ‘Special Declaration to Fight Terrorism’ on Monday.
