The Finance Minister, Mr Pranab Mukherjee, today laid the foundation stone for a road project in the international border area at Lalgola in Murshidabad district.
The Rs 15.5-crore project comprising various stretches of roads totalling 41 km comes under Border Area Development Project. These roads would be of much help to the people of border areas, Mr Mukherjee said after laying the foundation stone at Lalgola.
The Finance Minister also announced the adoption of a village, Lakhijola, under Lalgola police station by the state-owned insurance group New India Assurance to turn it into a model one.
He said more efforts should be made to make people aware of having insurance policies. Bank facilities have reached in most parts of the country but the case was not so for insurance, he said.
Mr Mukherjee also donated to Lakhijola village an ambulance from MPLAD fund.
