Nokia India on Thursday said its operations in the country would not be impacted even though its global headquarter announced of 10,000 jobs globally and shut down some of the facilities.
The company in January announced to revamp its business with Rs 250 crore investment in next three years at its manufacturing facility in special economic zone near Chennai. It would also create 500 new jobs during the period.
“The India operation will run as it is and Chennai facility will also remain unchanged,” one of the spokespersons of Nokia India told Business Line adding that the facility will continue manufacturing the “Asha” series of smartphones apart from more than 20 entry-level handsets. The Chennai plant is now the biggest manufacturing plant for the Finnish major.
Indian continues to be one of the biggest volume market for Nokia, although its market share has shrunk considerably over the past year.
