The Sensex and the Nifty rose nearly 0.7 per cent at the closing session on Thursday on sustained by funds and retail investors amid firm European cues.

The 30-share BSE index Sensex jumped 184.28 points to end at 26,103.23 and the 50-share NSE index Nifty gained 52.15 points to close at 7,791.70.

Barring IT and TECk, all other BSE sectoral indices ended in the green. Among them, consumer durables index gained the most by 2.08 per cent, followed by metal 1.94 per cent, capital goods 1.78 per cent and realty 1.74 per cent. On the other hand, IT index was down 0.08 per cent and TECk 0.05 per cent.

GAIL, SSLT, Tata Motors, Tata Power and ONGC were the major Sensex gainers, while the major losers were Hero MotoCorp, HDFC, Hindalco, Bharti Airtel and HUL.

European stocks reversed earlier losses as ThyssenKrupp AG and Royal Boskalis Westminster NV climbed. US futures and Asian shares were also up.

The Stoxx Europe 600 Index was up 0.4 per cent at 331.34 at 11.30 a.m. in London. Standard & Poor’s 500 Index futures gained 0.2 per cent, while the MSCI Asia Pacific Index rose 0.4 per cent.
