Small cardamom prices crossed the ₹1,100 a kg mark on Wednesday at the auction conducted by Vandanmedu Green Gold Cardamom Producer Company Limited in Puttady in Idukki.
Total arrivals stood at 60.2 tonnes and almost the entire quantity was sold. The individual auction average stood at ₹1,116,91 a kg.
The auction average on the previous Wednesday was ₹₹1,077.76 a kg.
Strong domestic demand following apprehensions about a likely decline in output due to erratic monsoon rains has created bullish sentiment, pushing the prices up, PC Punnoose, General Manager, CPMC told BusinessLine .
The current season officially began on August 1. Total arrivals at the auctions during the last season from August 1, 2016 to July 31, 2017 stood at 20,334 tonnes and sales were at 19,373 tonnes. The average price during the season was ₹1,092.73 a kg.
