The Centre appreciates the work RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan has done and respect the call that he has taken to go back to academia at the end of his term later this year, Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said.
“We appreciate the work Reserve Bank governor has done. He has taken a call that end of his term he is going back to academia. We respect that. That is where the matter is,” Sitharaman said at an interaction with journalists organised by the Indian Women’s Press Corps (IWPC).
On who would possibly be Rajan’s successor, the Minister said that it was too early to speak on the matter and a proper process would be followed.
Commenting on the effect of a possible exit of Britain from the EU after the referendum on June 23 on India, the Minister said that the government was assessing the impact of both possibilities of Britain staying and exiting from the bloc.
On the various free trade pacts signed by India, the Minister said that reviews were periodically carried out with various FTA partners and attempts would be made to address the concerns at such reviews.
“The Indian industry has pointed at specific areas in some FTAs where it has been hit while the partner countries have benefited. We will take up these concerns in the reviews,” she said.
