West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee gives a measured reaction. According to the Chief Minister, a complete review of Trinamool Congress’ performance will be done soon.
The reaction comes even as the State sees a massive saffron surge with BJP emerging as the sole challenger to Trinamool’s dominance.
As per the Election Commission of India (ECI), the trends suggest that Trinamool is leading in 22 seats, while the BJP leads in 19. Congress leads in one seat (Berhampore); while the Left has been completely decimated in the state that it ruled for 34 years.
Bengal with 42 seats has the third highest representation in the Lok Sabha, after UP and Maharashtra.
Vote share wise, the ECI site suggests that TMC has a 45 per cent share (till about 1.30 pm) while the BJP has 39 per cent.
Meanwhile, Banerjee via a tweet pointed out that “losers are not losers” and the counting process will be over only when “VVPATs are matched”.
This is Banerjee’s first reaction following the election trends.
