The Telangana Government is considering a move to treat poultry industry on par with agriculture sector. This will help the industry access power and finance at far lower rates.

“The Chief Minister, K Chandrasekahra Rao has formally agreed to the proposal. We hope to make it possible very soon,” Finance Minister Eatala Rajender has said.

Addressing the inaugural at the Poultry India 2015 here on Wednesday, he said the poultry farmers were facing difficulties this year because of shortage of feed and high duties on imports of maize and soya. “We urge the Central government to take a decision on the industry’s appeal to remove the duties and allow them to import the feed,” he said.

He said the State government would reduce tax on the purchase of equipment that went into the poultry farms. Earlier in the day, poultry industry representatives from Telangana had asked the State Government to reduce the tax from the present 15 per cent to 5 per cent on par with the tax in the neighbouring Maharashtra.

The industry also asked the Minister to convince the banks to convert working capital amounts into term loans.
