The Tamil Nadu Government will soon start work on the first phase of a 311-acre satellite township on the outskirts of Chennai.
According to the policy note on Housing and Urban Development tabled in the Assembly, the Tamil Nadu Housing Board has accorded administrative sanction for ₹9.52 crore to start work on land preparation covering about 138 acres. Thereafter, the construction of 9,700 flats will start in a phased manner.
The total project involves construction of 12,000 apartments at a total cost of about ₹2,160 crore.
Anna University is working on the infrastructure design for the project coming off the Chennai-Bangalore highway.
Affordable housing The State Government had announced plans for the project in 2011. Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had said then that the township, with physical and social infrastructure and amenities, will provide affordable housing to a wide segment of people.
