Vehicle manufacturers and component suppliers have come together to set up an electronic data exchange platform.

Usually each manufacturer has a dedicated portal for publishing delivery schedules and uploading of supplier transactions. Suppliers, on the other hand, need to customise their systems to each manufacturer’s portal to upload or download transaction data. This complexity often results delay in shipments.

Benefits The platform, AutoDX, will help standardise transaction data definitions, automate data exchange among industry players, do away with manual data entries and provide data interchange capability.

It has been set up by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) and the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA).

Sri Karumbati, CIO, SSS Springs Pvt Ltd, a component supplier, said: “The platform is available to all and is expected to bring down transaction costs by 4-5 times. The industry will benefit as it will become more competitive and harmonise with international practices.”

Jagdish Beliwal, CIO, Tata Motors, said: “About 40-odd OEMs and over 700 suppliers are expected to benefit with this.”

Global standards Aiming to move from a people-dependent platform to a process-dependent platform, the exchange of information on various logistics and financial transactions such as delivery schedules and commercial documents can now be done seamlessly between supply chain partners.

The initiative, a common cloud-based platform, was pilot tested by 10 companies.

United Nation’s EDIFACT-based standards have been adapted for standardisation of information exchange between the two.
