The Maharashtra Government has roped in Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan to promote horticulture. The recently inducted Horticulture Minister Jitendra Awhad told media persons that he had recently met Bachchan and the actor has accepted his request to promote horticulture in the State.
The minister said that promotion of fruits from Maharashtra will help the farmers get better prices in the market. Horticulture produce from the State, especially Alphonso mangoes, is getting bad publicity due to recent ban imposed by European Union. The EU is worried about the presence of fruit flies in these mangoes.
