Fortum, a Euro 6.1 billion Finnish energy major, which has big ambitions in India in solar energy, has appointed Sanjay Aggarwal as the Managing Director of Fortum India.

Sanjay Aggarwal is a former executive of Tata Power and has worked for Finnish company Wartsila, ABB and Thermax.

Fortum was in the news recently with its acquisition of a 5 MW solar plant in Rajasthan, which was the company’s first foray into the solar energy field, as well as its first step into India. Earlier this month, Fortum’s Managing Director, Maati Kaarnakari, had said that the company was open to investing even up to Euro 250 million in solar energy in India. The company was also open to buying operating solar plants, or setting up greenfield units.

Sanjay Aggarwal’s appointment underscores the seriousness Fortum attaches to India, company officials said.
