Chennai-based FPL has partnered with Nokero, to launch off-grid solar products and soon plans to manufacture these products in India.
FPL makes engineering platsics that goes into different kinds of industrial applications and Nokero makes solar lights, phone chargers and is a specialist in solar energy-related products.
Nokero Chief Marketing Officer, Nathan South, said that the company is keen to look at street lighting in the country as a business opportunity, due to abundant availability of sunlight in the country. "Our solar street lights with built in batteries, are maintenance free and it pays for itself which can leave a surplus for municipalities, panchayats and other local bodies," he added.
The company believes that solar is the way to go in rural parts of India, where infrastructure such as power lines are often not working or have not been laid.
