The GMR group will set up an expo-cum-convention centre near the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport here. It would invest Rs 750 crore to build the facility in a 50-acre plot in the Airport City that the company would develop near the airport.

GMR representatives have made a presentation to Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao at the Secretariat on Friday and sought his help in taking up the project.

The GMR delegation includes its Chairman GM Rao and Chairman of Airports Business Srinivas Bommidala.

While assuring the company representatives that he would look into the issue, the Chief Minister has asked the firm to build a new airport in the North of the city. He also asked the group to build a hospital at Shamshabad and a theme park.

This is the second time that the Chief Minister was broaching the issue. He earlier felt that the city would require one or two more airports as it evolves into a major city.

The representatives told the Chief Minister that the Airport City project would provide jobs to 15,000-20,000 jobs.

The Chief Minister assured the team that the Government ensure zero corruption in administration and would come out with a single window clearance system too. Taxes too would be reduced when compared to the neighbouring States, a Government release said on Friday.
