Union Minister for Chemical and Fertilisers Ananth Kumar will inaugurate the exposition. It is being organised by the plastic manufacturers’ associations from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka. Anil Reddy, convenor of the event, said the fair will be spread over 11,000 sq ft. The plastics industry in South India is growing faster than at the national level, driven by the automobile, pharma, food processing and flexible packaging sectors. The projected consumption of plastics is 2.5 million tonnes a year in the South, while the current processing capacities are around 1.2 mt.

“Clearly, there is a huge scope for setting up additional capacities,” Reddy told reporters here.

The event includes technical sessions, with issues such as advancements in flexible printing, plasticulture in agriculture, and use of plastics in the gas piping sector to be discussed.
