Bonfiglioli Transmissions, a subsidiary of Bonfiglioli Riduttori of Italy, will invest over ₹ 85 crore to expand its factories in India.

The ₹ 750-crore company which makes gear boxes for wind energy generators, earthmoving equipment and machinery used in diverse industrial applications, will expand production capacity at its factories in Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra.

Sonia Bonfiglioli, Chairman, Bonfiglioli Group, said at a press conference today, a new 1.4-lakh sq ft factory will be coming up adjacent to its existing facility at Thirumudivakkam on the outskirts of Chennai. The new factory will have a capacity of 75,000 units per year.

At Mannur, near Sriperumbudur, the company has a capacity of 400,000 units a year.

The Chennai plants have integrated facilities to produce gearboxes and gear motors for mobile machinery, wind turbines and industrial processes.

At Chakan, Pune, a new facility will be ready by March 2017, she said. The 45,000 sq ft will have a manufacturing capacity of 150,000 units to cater to diverse industries in core sectors, agriculture, power generation, food packaging, pharmaceutical, textile, material handling, paper and water treatment. With nearly 50 per cent of its business coming from the western region, this location gives it a strong advantage, Sonia said.

At Bologna, Italy, the company which is in its 60th year of operations, plans to set up a new factory at an investment of ₹ 450 crore spread over 16 lakh sq ft with an annual capacity of 800,000 units. Construction will commence early in 2017.
