Lufthansa recently celebrated 20 years of its operations in Chennai with a new business class seat with full-flat, horizontal sleeping surface on its Chennai-Frankfurt route.
“The first Lufthansa flight landed in Chennai in 1994 and it’s been a wonderful journey for us,” Wolfgang Will, Director-South Asia, told Business Line .
The load factor on the Chennai route is one of the highest and much better than the industry average, he said, without giving any number. “We are extremely pleased with our business in Chennai.”
Lufthansa has added 10 per cent capacity to the Chennai route when the new version of the Airbus A340-300 was introduced. It now offers 44 seats in the business class and 222 seats in the economy class.
In the summer 2014 flight schedule, Lufthansa offers 46 weekly flights from five Indian destinations to it hubs Frankfurt and Munich. It has a daily non-stop flight from Chennai to Frankfurt.
The German national carrier recently conducted a survey of over 500 frequent flyers to find out their preferences and their requirements of a business class seat.
