Parry Nutraceuticals, a division of EID Parry of the Murugappa Group, has partnered with Synthite Industries for technology to extract Phycocyanin, a natural blue pigment in Spirulina, according to a press release from Parry.
Blue pigment Natural blue is one of the primary colours with limited sources that are acceptable by regulatory bodies.
Phycocyanin from Spirulina is approved as food colour by major regulatory bodies in the US, EU, Japan and South Korea.
It is ideal for use in food and beverages because of its stability and flexibility.
Spirulina is an accepted health supplement in the market.
Muthu Murugappan, Business Head, Parry Nutraceuticals, said this “partnership complements our two decades of expertise in organic Spirulina cultivation”.
Spirulina is a micro algae.
Synthite Industries with a business of $300 million has a global presence in the natural colour segment and will focus on this market.
Parry Nutraceuticals will cater to the human nutrition segment.
