Pioneer India Electronics, a subsidiary of Japanese consumer electronics company Pioneer Corporation, is keen on introducing more India-specific products and features, and strengthening its distribution in the country.

“At the moment, sales revenues contribution from India for the company globally is not big, but there are no doubts about the country’s huge potential, as it has a large tech-savvy young generation,” said Minoru Ogawa, MD, Pioneer India. “India has always been a very important market for us.”

Asked if the company is planning to manufacture here, Ogawa said it will first focus on bringing in more India-specific products and features, and will observe the “Make in India” policy framework.

On Wednesday, the company launched its new range of in-car entertainment systems, including AV players, DVD players, CD & USB players, speakers and subwoofers, which have been designed after extensive India-focused research.

Pioneer believes there is a huge opportunity to get more consumers to change their old car music systems or upgrade their basic ones. It is betting big on its touch-screen range, as it wants to woo consumers with its “infotainment” systems.

While the company’s large chunk of revenues is coming from after-sales segment, it is also focusing on growing its original equipment manufacturer tie-up business, which currently contributes about 15 per cent to the company’s revenues in the country.

Pioneer India is also focusing on growing its products’ penetration in smaller towns and cities by expanding the dealer network.
