Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries group is moving over to a five-day working week across all its companies from April 1.

The group, which straddles across exploration and oil and gas production, petroleum refining and marketing and retail, is shedding its long culture of six-day week work culture.

This is part of a “business transformation process”, according to an internal letter written to employees by group Chairman Mukesh Ambani.

The five-day working week would be implemented across all group companies Reliance Industries, Reliance Life Sciences, Reliance Petroleum, Reliance Retail and Reliance Jio Infocomm.

When contacted a company spokesperson confirmed the development, but did not divulge the details. However, the company is yet to finalise the details of the schedule. The internal letter does not mention how the group is planning to take on account the loss of a man-day. On an average, a Reliance Group official has to log in 7.5 hours per day at work. The company’s manufacturing locations would also move to a five-day week, but not immediately.
