Sharp India is focussing on products such as air purifiers and inverter ACs to strengthen its presence in India. The company on Tuesday launched its range of air purifiers and expects to earn about ₹500 crore by 2016-17 from this segment.

Sunil K Sinha, Managing Director and CEO-India Region, said: “We expect the market to touch ₹2,000 crore by 2016-17 and we aim to have about 25 per cent market share of this segment. We believe air purifiers and inverter ACs will be our key growth drivers at a time when the consumer durable segment is stagnant.”

Sinha said the company has tested these air purifiers in Delhi and will target key metros and State capitals. The air purifiers are priced between ₹15,000 and ₹40,000.

While Sinha did not give specifics of turnover, he said the company has doubled its inverter AC sales this year. With low penetration levels of air conditioners in the country, the inverter AC category is poised for growth.
