Toonz Entertainment, a content and animation company based here which incorporates flagship division Toonz Animation, is setting up a dedicated subsidiary in Auckland, New Zealand.

Mark Nicholls will be the director of Toonz Entertainment, New Zealand. Having put in 17 years in the logistics and supply chain industry, he has interests in media property.

PRODUCT PIPELINE

Nicholls has been working with Toonz Media Group for the last two years on multiple projects, said P Jayakumar, CEO, Toonz Media Group.

The Auckland centre will seek to exploit intellectual property - existing as well as prospective - in animated and live-action realms.

It will explore opportunities in strategic production, licensing, retail and technology partnerships in the region.

It will also support the Toonz development pipeline and help to incubate and cross-pollinate ideas specifically for these markets.

The New Zealand venture comes close on the heels of the closure of Toonz’s acquisition of Spain’s Imira Entertainment that has furthered its penetration into Europe and Latin America.

KEY MARKETS

“New Zealand and Australia are key markets for our properties,” Jayakaumar said. There is considerable potential in having a dedicated operation on ground to help maximise presence in the region.

According to Nicholls, this is an ideal time to grow a business in New Zealand which is experiencing strong economic growth.

The country has substantial talent, resources and a supportive government committed to growing the entertainment production sector.

With this new base, Toonz will be able to maximise the synergies across Asia, New Zealand and Australia as well as offer opportunities to local businesses.

Toonz New Zealand plans to take off with the launch of a new retail product, which is being released in the New Zealand and Australian markets.
