The Toyota Kirloskar Workers’ Union has accused the Karnataka Government of not taking cognisance of the management’s illegal action of hiring contract workers to run its factories.

In another development, 13 more have joined the hunger strike by the workers on Thursday.

A union office-bearer told Business Line that on Wednesday, 10 workers went on a hunger strike to protest against the company’s insistence on asking each of them to sign a guarantee of good conduct.

He also alleged that the management had hired contract workers to restart production of vehicles.

“It is grossly illegal and we expected the Government to stop the management from carrying on the production,” he said.

About 4,200 workers began their stir on March 13 and the next day, the company declared a lockout only to lift it a week later.
