Tata Sons, the holding company of the Tata Group of companies, today named industrialists Venu Srinivasan and Ajay Piramal as non-executive directors on its board. The appointments, effective Thursday, takes the total number of board members to eight.

Venu Srinivasan is the Chairman of TVS Motor and Sundaram-Clayton, while Ajay Piramal is the Chairman of Piramal and Shriram groups.

A Padma Shri awardee, Srinivasan has been President of the Confederation of Indian Industries (2009-10), President of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (1999-2001) and Chairman of the National Safety Council, Government of India.

Srinivsan has also been conferred the JRD Tata Corporate Leadership Award and the Jamsetji Tata Lifetime Achievement Award.

Piramal, a recipient of several national and international awards including the Forbes Distinguished Philanthropist Award, serves on Harvard Business School’s Board of Dean’s Advisors and is the Chairman of the world’s largest NGO in primary education, Pratham.

He has been investing heavily in areas such as real-estate and financial services ever since he sold his drug formulations venture to Abbott five years ago.

Cyrus Mistry chairs the board of Tata Sons, and the other members include Ishaat Hussain, Vijay Singh, Nitin Nohria, Ronen Sen and Farida Khambata.

The Mumbai-headquartered Tata group comprises more than 100 independent operating companies, with presence in a hundred countries.
