Wipro Lighting and Furniture Business has entered into a licensing agreement with Germany-based chair-maker Interstuhl.
Interstuhl in partnership with Wipro, will make some elements of its chairs in India, specifically the ones used in corporate boardrooms and offices.
Additionally, Wipro showcased its 'pause range of seating', typically used in metros, airports and consulates. Parag Kulkarni, Senior Vice-President & Business Head for Commercial Lighting & Furniture Business, Wipro Lighting, said: “Earlier, these kinds of seats were imported and it would take a lot of time and be expensive too.”
By making it in India, Wipro wants to capitalise on this opportunity as India is in the process of overhauling its crumbling infrastructure.
Sees demand Kulkarni is convinced that despite an economy which is predicted to grow around 5 per cent this year, there is still a demand for high quality seating, such as the ones sold by Intersthul. “We look at this as the products of the future.”
