The Tamilnadu Farmers Association led by S Periyasamy has demanded that the Tamil Nadu government order the procurement of 10 lakh quintals of turmeric from farmers at ₹8,500 a quintal of first-grade turmeric and ₹8,000 for second-quality turmeric.
The faemres’ association met State Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami here on Sunday.
The farmers said that due to drought conditions last year, they had cultivated minimal quantities of turmeric and the yield was poor.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association Sales yard, finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,655 to ₹7,699 a quintal, the root variety sold at ₹5,122 to ₹6481 a quintal, root variety was sold at Rs 6481 a quintal.
At the Regulated Marketing Committee, finger turmeric sold at₹6,061 to 6,969 a quintal. The Root variety sold at ₹5,159 to ₹6,089 a quintal.
