For the first time in the history of the Regulated Marketing Committee, only 16 bags of turmeric were sold against an arrival of 113 bags. This is due to the arrival of poor quality old turmeric. On Monday, the arrival of turmeric was low in all the markets. But the price and arrival of new crop remained stable. Of the 1,800 bags arrived for sale, Mysore turmeric’s share was 400 bags. The buyers purchased all the 400 bags of new turmeric and bought 30 per cent of the old turmeric. Traders said the arrival of new turmeric in Nizamabad, Sangli and Warangal are high. Regarding the price, the (new) finger turmeric was sold at ₹7,700 a quintal and root variety at ₹7,400. The old turmeric prices were down by ₹200-300 a quintal.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the New finger turmeric was sold at ₹7,120-7,699 a quintal, root turmeric was sold at ₹6,027-7,429 a quintal. The old finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,809-8,229 a quintal, root variety was sold at ₹5,255-7,439 a quintal. Of the total arrival of 1,312 bags, 727 were sold including the new turmeric.
At the Regulated Marketing Committee, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,419-7,477 a quintal, root variety was sold at ₹5,119-6,814 a quintal. Only 113 bags arrived for sale and the buyers purchased just 16 bags.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, finger turmeric was sold at ₹6,389-7,659 a quintal, root variety was sold at ₹5,559-6,189 a quintal. Out of 309 bags of turmeric kept for sale, 122 were sold.
