The average price at Sale No: 5 of Coonoor Tea Trade Association auctions rose by ₹3 a kg over the previous sale and touched ₹93.40 – the highest in the last nine months.

Despite this, about 83 per cent of the offer was sold out due to increased winter demand from upcountry buyers and select exporters.

Homedale Estate’s Broken Peko tea, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped both the leaf tea auction and the entire CTC market when TRP Tea and Commodities bought it for ₹280 a kg. This was the highest price in the entire auction this week of any tea, CTC or orthodox, from any factory, corporate or bought-leaf.

Vigneshwar Estate’s Broken Orange Pekoe Small, auctioned by Paramount Tea Marketing, fetched ₹201 and was the only other grade to enter the high-price bracket of ₹200/kg in the CTC Leaf auction.

In the CTC Dust tea market, Homedale Estate’s three grades, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped at ₹273, ₹272 and ₹258. No other grade crossed ₹200/kg.

In the orthodox tea market, Chamraj Estate and Kairbetta topped each fetching ₹201. All others got less than ₹200.
