The Telangana Government has cleared a proposal to double the processing capacity of Vijaya Dairy, a cooperative dairy firm to 8 lakh litres a day from the existing 4.5 lakh litres.
“We are going to spend Rs 170 crore on the capacity expansion. We have also decided to acquire 100 acres at Shamirpet for further expansion of the dairy firm,” Minister for Animal Husbandry Talasani Srinivasa Yadav, told the Assembly on Thursday.
Answering a query from members on the dairy sector, he said the Government would also focus on expanding the retail outlets to encourage consumption and on asserting Vijaya Dairy’s leadership in the sector.
e-NAM
The Minister for Marketing and Irrigation, T Harish Rao, has said the government is in the process of expanding the e-NAM (National Agriculture Market) network by adding 14 markets in the State.
The State has the e-NAM facility in 44 markets, constituting about 10 per cent of the total network of 455 markets in the country.
He, however, said that cotton has not been included in the e-NAM due to the (computer) server issues. It would be added soon after the issue was addressed.
