The Chairman of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, Dr C. Rangarajan, has reiterated that a decision on deregulation of petroleum prices would need to be taken at some point once inflation moderates in December/January.
Speaking to newspersons here after making a speech at Bancon 2011, Dr Rangarajan chose to go with the Reserve Bank's projection of inflation retreating to the level of seven per cent by March 2012.
On the question of deepening the corporate debt market, he said that better informed and sustained discussions are needed before rushing to any decision.
He also sought to make the point that non-banking finance companies with good track record could also be considered here subject to 'fit and proper' conditions are as applicable.
