The government is likely to call for bids for ₹1 lakh crore worth of new transmission lines in the next six months.
“We will have tariff-based competitive bidding for ₹1-lakh-crore worth of transmission lines. When I talk about this investment, it is not just Power Grid Corporation that will participate,” Piyush Goyal, Minister of State (Independent Charge) Coal, said on Wednesday.
Goyal added 40-50 new coal mines are also expected to be opened in the next 18 months with 12 being opened by Coal India’s arm Western Coalfields.
“The power, coal and renewable energy sectors have investment plans of nearly $250 billion in the next five years,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Coal Ministry has completed the ground work for the next round of coal block auctions which could kick off by end-June, Coal Secretary Anil Swarup said.
