Jazeera Airways has launched direct Kuwait to Hyderabad daily flight and announced plans to connect Kochi, Mumbai and Ahmedabad by January next.
The Kuwait-based, exchange-listed, low-cost carrier, outlined its long-term plans to further connect more cities in India, hoping the Indian Civil Aviation Ministry would allow more seats between Kuwait and India.
‘More choices’ Rohit Ramachandran, CEO of Jazeera Airways, said, “Our expansion of network into India is a significant step towards connecting other cities in a market seen to have immense potential. The daily flight to Kuwait will offer more choices to India travellers connecting them to Kuwait, Riyadh, Jeddah, Bahrain and Dubai.” Jazeera flies to over 20 destinations in West Asia, Europe and India with its fleet of eight Airbus A320 aircraft. The airline offers religious travellers connections to Taif in Saudi Arabia, Najaf in Iraq, Mashad in Iran and Amman for the Holy Land.
“We expect 50 per cent of out travellers to be for business and to serve the over one million strong Indian workers in Kuwait and the rest would come from other sections, including pilgrims and those seeking to come to Hyderabad for healthcare and holiday,” he said.
Referring to the current permissible limit of 12,000 seats per week to India from Kuwait, Ramachandran said, “We are in talks with the government and Director General of Civil Aviation to consider our request to increase the number of seats. It has also been tough to get landing slots. The increase in seats is necessary as there is huge untapped potential as people are seeking direct connectivity to Kuwait, which is just about three and a half hours.”
Expansion plans On expansion, the CEO of the 13-year-old airliner said, “Jazeera will connect to Mumbai from January 15, Ahmedabad from January 16, and follow it up with a flight to Kochi from January 18. While Mumbai will have direct daily flights, Jazeera expects to operate three flights per week to Ahmedabad and four flights to Kochi.”
Jazeera will have its own terminal in Kuwait by the first quarter of next year. This will immensely add to the convenience of passengers, he said.
SGK Kishore, CEO of GHIAL, said, “We are confident that this will further boost the tourism potential between India and various tourist destinations in West Asia, including Kuwait, Iran, Jordan and Egypt among others. Hyderabad provides a huge catchment areas from about 19 cities and towns.”
