The arrival of new turmeric to the Erode markets has registered an increase. “On Wednesday, 500 bags of new turmeric arrived and of this 230 bags were root variety and the rest finger turmeric. Fifteen bags of new finger turmeric was sold at ₹10,000 a quintal. The root variety also fetched increased price and all the 500 bags were sold,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
The price of the old finger turmeric was up ₹400 a quintal and the new finger by ₹500-900. Similarly, the old root variety too was up ₹700-1,200 due to quality, while the new root variety gained ₹400. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association, the new finger variety traded at ₹8,419-9,888 a quintal; the root variety ₹8,029-9,177.
