Hybrid turmeric prices increased on Tuesday as traders received upcountry demand.
Of the arrival of 4,000 bags, 1,960 bags were sold including the 500 bags of new Mysore variety turmeric. New turmeric trades at ₹300 a quintal higher than the old one. Similarly, the hybrid finger turmeric was up ₹600 and was sold at ₹9,529. The local varieties gained ₹100.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric went for ₹5,678-7,814 a quintal; the root variety ₹5,496-7,499.
Salem Hybrid: The finger turmeric was sold at ₹6,518-9,529 and the root variety ₹6,434-7,734. New turmeric: The finger variety fetched ₹6,619-8,189; the root variety ₹6,099-7,559. Of the arrival of 1,062 bags, 405 were sold.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹7,071-8,112 and the root turmeric ₹6,911-7,727. Of the 705 bags offered, 599 were traded.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric fetched ₹7,058-7,920; the root variety ₹6,769-7,525. All the 695 bags found takers.
