A strong export enquiry lifted prices of grainier varieties especially SRD, RD and PD at Kochi tea auctions. These grades were dearer by ₹3-5 a kg.

Major blenders were active of good liquoring varieties and the quantity on offer in CTC dust was 7,27,000 kg.

However, the market for primary grades in orthodox dust barley remained steady and witnessed some withdrawals due to low or lack of bid. The quantity on offer was 10,500 kg. Exporters continued to be the mainstay, the auctioneers Forbes, Ewart & Figgis said.

In Cochin CTC dust quotation, good varieties fetched ₹117-159, mediums quoted ₹110-137 and plain grades stood at ₹109-120.

In the leaf category, the market for good liquoring Nilgiri brokens, whole leaf and Fannings in orthodox grades was firm to dearer. The quantity on offer was 127,000 kg.

In CTC leaf, the market for brokens was irregular and lower. Fannings was firm to dearer, particularly blacker teas. The quantity on offer was 56,000 kg and the bulk of the quantity sold was absorbed by exporters, upcountry and Kerala buyers.

In dust varieties , Kallyar SFD quoted the best prices of ₹164 followed by Monica/Waterfall SFD and Sholayar SRD at ₹157 each. In leaf category, Chamraj FOP-S (Green Tea) came to the top quoting ₹400 followed by P’s Woodlands Hyson (Green Tea) at ₹296.
