Sugar prices on the Vashi wholesale spot market was up by ₹4-10 for fine variety and ruled unchanged for fair variety. Naka rates were unchanged as it gained ₹10 on rise in freight rates by transporters due to shortage of drivers during Diwali. Mill tender rates rule steady as millers continued selling and kept sell offer open. Volume remained comparatively lower on ease demand.

A Vashi-based wholesaler said: “Due to ₹10 rise in freight rates, sentiment remained positive but slack demand kept physical markets under pressure. Millers kept their sell offer open as crushing activities in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh is expected to start soon,” he said.

Arrivals at Vashi market were 61-62 truckloads and local dispatches were 58-60 loads. On Tuesday, about 19-20 mills offered tenders and sold 44,000-45,000 bags at ₹2,780-2,890 (₹2,790-2,900) for S-grade and ₹2,890-3,000 (₹2,900-3,000) for M-grade.

The Bombay Sugar Merchants Association's spot rates were: S-grade ₹2,936-3,052 (₹2,936-3,042) and M-grade was ₹3,062-3,225 (₹3,062-3,221).

Naka delivery rates were: S-grade ₹2,890-2,970 (₹2,890-2,970) and M-grade ₹3,010-3,120 (₹3,010-3,120).
