Delay in arrival of new crop lifted chana prices over the past one week by almost ₹200 in the past one week with chana ( kanta ) in Indore mandis being quoted at ₹3,325-50 a quintal, while chana ( desi ) ruled at ₹3,050, chana ( mausmi ) at ₹3,200-3,400 and Kabuli Bitki ₹2,900-3,100. Besides delay in arrival of new crop, fear of lower crop output has prompted speculators to lift chana prices.
According to Prakash Vora, a local chana trader, prices will likely to rule firm or trade higher till arrival of new crop, which is expected to hit mandis in Madhya Pradesh by mid-February.
