Pepper markets turned hot on Thursday on tight supply and high demand. On the spot, there were said to be buyers at above ₹710 a kg but there were no sellers. On the regional exchange, there were buyers at ₹72,775 a quintal for July contract, while there were no sellers, market sources told BusinessLine . Leading exporters were asking for 550 GL pepper from re-sellers at higher levels but no material was available, they said. Karnataka, which was offering at ₹645 – ₹650 a kg delivered anywhere in India, has suddenly raised the price to ₹700 a kg, upcountry trade sources claimed. On the spot there was neither any arrival nor any offtake on Thursday. Spot prices were notionally raised by ₹900 a quintal to close at ₹68,000 (ungarbled) and ₹70,500 (garbled) but there were buyers at above these levels. Indian export prices were at $12,300 a tonne (c&f) for the Europe and $12,550 a tonne (c&f) for the USA.
