Spot turmeric prices decreased at Erode markets due to non-receipt of demand. “Still we are waiting for the upcountry demand and the local traders quoting lower price purchased 55 per cent of the stocks arrived for sale. On Monday, 5,600 bags of the yellow spice including 1,500 bags of new crop arrived for sale. The buyers quoted higher price for the new crop and procured all the bags,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the price of the new and old turmeric finger variety was down ₹100 a quintal, while the old root variety turmeric lost ₹600 due to arrival of very poor quality. At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, both the finger and root varieties were down ₹300. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger variety old turmeric was sold at ₹6,189-8,534 a quintal and the root variety ₹5,889-7,914.

New turmeric variety: The finger variety traded at ₹6,694-8,888; the root variety ₹6,585-8,010. Of the 1,844 bags that arrived, 510 were sold.

At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric fetched ₹7,599-8,899 and the root variety ₹7,255-8,257. Of the arrival of 662 bags, 564 were traded.

At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric went for ₹7,300-8,553 and the root variety ₹7,233-8,099. Of the 572 bags on sale, 503 were sold.

At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹6,819-8,590; the root turmeric ₹6,590-8,103. All the 55 bags found takers. Our Correspondent
