Spot turmeric prices decreased by ₹300 a quintal at Erode markets on lack of upcountry demand and poor quality arrivals. “Though 6,300 bags of turmeric arrived for sale, the buyers procured all the 2,000 bags of new turmeric and purchased about 1,500 bags of old turmeric. Only medium quality old turmeric arrived for sale, so the buyers quoted decreased price,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association. The new turmeric lost ₹100 a quintal and the old turmeric ₹300. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association, the finger turmeric went for ₹8,233-9,869 a quintal; the root variety at ₹7,800-9,199. Of the arrival of 2,278 bags,1,290 were sold.
