Spot turmeric prices increased at Erode markets on fresh upcountry demand.
“Prices were up ₹200 a quintal as traders have received some upcountry orders. Though medium variety turmeric arrived for sale, the traders quoted higher price. The superfine Salem Turmeric went for ₹9,000 a quintal and medium variety Salem turmeric at ₹8,700,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
Of the arrival of 5,000 bags, 3,400 were sold for an increased price. The finger turmeric increased by ₹200 and the root variety by ₹150-200.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,699-7,899 a quintal; the root variety ₹5,500-7,349. Of the arrival of 2,047 bags, 1,010 were sold.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric fetched ₹6,899-7,919 and the root variety ₹6,687-7,517. Of the 961 bags offered, 947 were traded.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹6,999-7,959; the root variety ₹6,599-7,589. All the 943 bags found takers.
