Quality turmeric was sold at a higher price on Wednesday. The old hybrid finger turmeric increased by ₹700 a quintal and the root variety by ₹300 a quintal. Local turmeric increased by ₹150-₹200 a quintal.

“For the second day, only 30 bags of new medium variety turmeric arrived for sale, which was sold at a lower price. But fine variety old hybrid finger turmeric sold at a higher price. Of the 1,700 bags that arrived, only 50 per cent was sold,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.

Arrival of new turmeric in Nizamabad market increased and on Wednesday, 3,000 bags arrived. But prices were at a par with the same as in the Erode markets. Ravishankar said traders procured all the quality turmeric and rejected poor quality turmeric. Expecting a rise in prices, many farmers have decided to bring more of the new crop by the weekend. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association Sales yard, the finger turmeric sold at ₹4,509-7,648 a quintal, the root variety at ₹4,417-7,211. Salem Hybrid: The finger turmeric was sold at ₹6,184-8,858, the root variety ₹6,032-7,734. New Mysore variety Turmeric: finger variety was sold at ₹6,179- 7,538, the root variety at ₹5,378-7,009. At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹7,269-8,120, the root turmeric at ₹6,591-7,349 a quintal. At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric fetched ₹6,900-7,899, the root variety ₹6,895-7,437. At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,918-7,999, the root variety was sold at ₹5,385-7,469.
