Spot turmeric prices in Erode markets decreased on Thursday due to poor quality of arrivals.
“The price of the hybrid finger and other varieties decreased by ₹200 a quintal. Buyers quoted a lower price and purchased limited stocks. Of the 4,900 bags that arrived, 2,180 were sold,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
The Salem Hybrid Finger turmeric was down ₹270 and was sold at ₹7,431 a quintal on Thursday. Other varieties too were down by ₹200 a quintal. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹4,019-6,395 a quintal; the root variety ₹4,011-6,289.
Salem Hybrid: The finger turmeric ruled at ₹5,678-7,431 and the root variety ₹5,409-6,594. Of the 988 bags that arrived, 192 were sold.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric fetched ₹5,609-6,574; the root variety ₹5,527-6,539. Of the 968 bags on offer, only 600 were traded.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,888-6,599; the root variety ₹5,787-6,537. All the 1,334 bags found takers.
At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,103-6,550 and the root variety ₹5,100-6,346. Of the 191 bags put up for sale, 171 were picked up.
