Spot turmeric prices decreased in Erode markets due to heavy arrival of 8,500 bags.
“Traders are keen in buying new turmeric and Salem turmeric for their quality. Of 8,500 bags that arrived, the new crop was some 2,500 bags and Salem variety only 200 bags. Buyers quoted lower price for the local varieties and procured 1,800 bags,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger variety old turmeric was sold at ₹5,711-8,505 a quintal and the root variety ₹5,434-7,699.
New turmeric variety: The finger variety traded at ₹6,819-8,725; the root variety ₹6,469-7,749. Salem Turmeric: The finger variety was sold at ₹6,711-10,801 and the root variety ₹6,469-8,114. Of the 2,559 bags that arrived, 1,210 were sold.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric went for ₹7,445-8,513; the root turmeric ₹6,669-7,770. Of the 1,501 bags offered, 1,350 were traded.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹7,199-8,499; the root variety ₹6,899-7,720. Of the 1,473 bags on sale, 1,299 were sold.
At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric fetched ₹7,365- 8,589and the root variety ₹7,135-7,769. All the 257 bags found takers.
