Spot turmeric prices decreased in Erode markets on Tuesday on weak futures.
“ In the morning, the price of the yellow spice was up 6 per cent but it gradually declined by 2 per cent. So, traders quoted lower price for the commodity and procured only 50 per cent of the 2,700 bags that arrived,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
Only 80 bags of new turmeric arrived and all of them were sold, but the price of the new crop was down ₹300 a quintal. The hybrid finger lost ₹500 on quality. Similarly, the local turmeric variety also lost ₹200. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,534-7,694 a quintal; the root variety ₹5,324-7,361.
Salem Hybrid: The finger turmeric fetched ₹6,584-8,300 and the root variety ₹6,394-7,674.
New Turmeric crop: The finger variety was sold at ₹6,338-7,727 and the root variety ₹6,064-7,295. Of the 631 bags that arrived for sale, 238 were sold.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric went for ₹6,169-7,869; the root variety ₹6,239-7,309. Of the 215 bags on sale, 174 were sold.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was traded at ₹6,716-7,949; the root variety ₹6,300-7,811. Of the 297 bags placed for sale, 153 were traded.
At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric ruled at ₹6,612-8,189; the root variety ₹6,112-7,312. All the 23 bags found takers.
