The rupee was trading strong at 67.67 in the evening session on increased selling of the US currency by exporters and banks.

Dealers said dollar’s weakness against other currencies overseas supported the rupee sentiment.

Furthermore, a firm domestic equity market ensured the uptrend picked up momentum, they added.

The rupee rose 17 paise to 67.78 against the dollar in early trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market today.

It hovered in a range of 67.84 and 67.60 before quoting at 67.67, up 28 paise at 4.50 pm local time.

The domestic unit had ended steady at 67.95 a dollar yesterday following fag-end dollar demand from banks and importers in view of uncertainty in the currency market.

Meanwhile, the 30-share BSE index Sensex ended higher by 215.84 points or 0.81 per cent at 26,740.39.
