Amid a weakening trend overseas, silver fell Rs 157 to Rs 35,176 per kg at the futures trade today as speculators trimmed positions.
Silver for delivery in December traded lower by Rs 157 or 0.44 per cent to Rs 35,176 per kg in a business turnover of 396 lots at the futures trading on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX).
On similar lines, the white metal for delivery in September was trading lower by Rs 101 or 0.29 per cent at Rs 34,410 per kg in a business turnover of 369 lots.
In the international market, silver traded 0.3 per cent lower at $14.56 an ounce in Singapore.
Market analysts said a weak trend in precious metals in global markets, as Asian stocks extended a global rout on concern over China’s slowdown and its impact on the world economy, kept pressure on silver futures.
